Classroom + Behind-the-Wheel
The driver education course teaches the theory of responsible driving. Emphasis is placed upon the introduction of driving mechanics, execution of most driving operations, and a thorough understanding of safe driving rules. The course meets all state driver education requirements, and the textbook used is the ADTSEA-adopted teen driver curriculum: AAA's How to Drive (15th edition). The curriculum is highly visual and interactive, so the novice driver learns how to effectively search and build strong risk awareness/mitigation, which will be applied during behind-the-wheels driving lessons. The course is offered in the following formats:
- In-Person - Take the course in a traditional classroom setting at your high school.
- Zoom - Take the course via Zoom with a live instructor at a set time each day.
- Online - Take the course online at your own pace. You are assigned an instructor to oversee your coursework, grade assignments, and answer questions.
Behind-the-wheel driving lessons include six hours of driving lessons and six hours of in-car observation. You must successfully complete the course, be paid in full, and have your instruction permit before you can start in-car lessons.
- Fuel Fee Policy: To keep our standard behind the wheel lesson rates as low as possible, we check AAA's Wisconsin Fuel Average on the first of each month. If the statewide average reaches more than $4.25 per gallon on the first day of the month you register, a $25.00 Fuel Fee will be added to your Behind-the-Wheel registration.
A down payment of $190 is required to register. The remaining balance must be paid in full by the time the classroom portion is completed to schedule behind-the-wheel driving lessons.
